Guest guest
In reply to Digest #431: We heard from Swami Ashokananda the Madalasa story as follows: She was an admirable, ascetic kind of woman who didn't want to marry. Her husband the King got her to marry him after long persuasion and only on her making the condition that she have the education of the children in her own hand. Seven princes were born, and she gave the same mantras to each as he came along. Soon, that prince would renounce the kingdom and the world, and go off as a sannyasin. When the seventh one was born the King said, " Look here. That's enough! Who's going to inherit the kingdom? Give me this last prince to raise in my way. " Madalasa agreed, but told him he had broken his promise, and she was leaving him, and went off to be an elderly sannyasini.
