" The scavenger carries a tub of night-soil on his head, and in course of

time loses his repulsion to it. " My understanding is that night-soil refers

to " women and gold. " The odor of night-soil is repulsive, but the scavenger

who deals with it night and day, loses that feeling of repulsion.

Hi Anurag,

Sri ramakrishna has used night soil (excreta/manure) as simile for maya

('woman and gold').

If a spritual person lives with woman and money for a long time he may lose

the love towards God and insted he may get entraped in maya, As a scavenger

get used to the smell of night soil.
