Guest guest
One can pray for many reasons. when in distress, or to have something from Lord, or to help others (thanks for reminding) or just for the sake of love. I think nothing can comapare to an unselfish prayer prayed for others. Its like livig the life for others. and i guess the quote by Swami Vivekakanda does resonate here. " One who lives for others, lives alone, Rest are more dead than alive. " When one prays there is a surrender in love towards one to whom one prays. Deeper the surrender deeper will be the effect. Ego vanishes when there is surrender. When Ego is absent one is more close to ones true nature and Lord. When Ego is absent the pious thoughts will arise in ones mind. And with mind filled with pious thoughts and love towards lord causes the divine energy ( Kundalini ) within us to rise. ( Raja Yoga by Swami Vivekananda tells what happens when we pray ) It may happen that a bad thought may cross one mind because ones mind is still not all pure and whatever is there in the mind its going to pop up. We have to be wise enough in throwing it away. Its something like " Samudra Manthan " . Good and bad thoughts will come but we have to establish the good and loving ones and throw away the bad ones. I think the Bad thoughts will not affect if they come through very mean desires. But if the bad thought comes from deep pain within then it may get materialised ( Its like uttering a curse ). But materialization of such a thought i guess is much complicated. It will depend on the other person, yourself and lord. I believe Bad thoughts do fall back on us. Yes prayer can remove the preordained problems in life. Asking for forgiveness from lord and this world is one the main reasons behind the success of Jain Munis in their Sadhanas. I guess prayer is one of the important spiritual exercise in christanity. Prayer is nothin but bhakti. A deep prayer is the union of the devotee in to lord. When in deep prayer person forgets himself and goes in to state of all encompassing love. On Mon, 19 Jun 2000, Gopi Krishna wrote: > Om > > I have a very basic question to ask. Guest guest
To me praying is equivalent to setting up certain ideals for oneself to achieve in life and livingness. - Gopi Krishna Ramakrishna Cc: hindu Monday, June 19, 2000 5:09 AM [ramakrishna] Basic questions.
