Guest guest
In today's world, when science appears to be the panacea for all the problems, we start questioning the necessity of religion and God. However, despite scientific progress and technological innovations, it is obvious that we feel insecure and are worried due to the trials and tribulations in life. Everyone experiences stress, frustration, estrangement, grief and despair. To face such predicaments one needs to acquire values of contentment and forbearance. The householder disciples of Sri Ramakrishna showed us how one can live in the world and yet be centered in God. When we realize through self-experience, or through the experiences of others, that money and fame, intellectual and other privileges are inadequate to free us from the suffering and tragedies of life a definite ray of hope shines through the lives of these disciples for us to find the way. The concept of God is related with our own higher consciousness. It is the reality about our true nature that is all Bliss and Divine. Because of our ignorance we associate ourselves and stay focussed on body and matter only. Living God centered life means realizing and manifesting our true nature. Better than getting entangled in 'lust and gold', a different life of higher quality and values is within our reach. This is possible by combination of many factors, like influence of tradition, study of scriptures, and, most importantly, devotion, faith, surrender, and association with a holy person - a saint, a sage, or a Man of God. We see this in the lives of the devotees of Sri Ramakrishna. Their illumined lives at his holy feet give us some hope of leading God centered life and redeeming our faith in spirituality. c s s -- ====================== E-magazine on Vedanta and Science.
