It deals with actual experience rather than just the theory of spirituality. Raja yoga claims that all prophets of all religions have succeeded in raja yoga knowingly or unknowingly. The authority they derive comes from this first hand experience which is sometimes called :- 'God realisation / 'Self realisation / 'Enlightenment'. regards jay

Guest guest
Dear Anurag- It's hard to say enough about Raja Yoga- it is the basis of all religion and spiritual practice. Patanjali states " Yogas chitta vritta nirodhah " or " Control of the mind is Yoga. " It is sometimes called " Ashtanga Yoga " because there are 8 limbs. They are: 1. YAMA- Yama consists of non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, continence, and non-greed (ahimsa, satya, asteya, bramacharya, aparigrahah). 2. NIYAMA- Niyama consists of purity, contentment, accepting but not causing pain, study of spiritual books, and surrender to God (saucha, samtosha, tapah, svadhyaya, and Isvarapranidhanani). 3. ASANA- posture 4. PRANAYAMA- breath control 5. PRATYAHARA- sense withdrawal 6. DHARANA-concentration 7. DHYANA- meditation 8. SAMADHI- absorption These steps must be perfected to calm the mind and attain samadhi. Of course these steps occur naturally and sweetly through Bhakti Yoga. Please read Swamiji's Raja Yoga or the commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda. God bless you!
