This is an interesting analysis. I would say that under "self-consciousness" lies the decision "To Be."

[ramakrishna] Unity and Duality

The subatomic elements are seen at times as particles as at times aswaves. Where or what is the background unity of these phenomena? Inbetween the time when particles become waves and vice-a-versa where dothey and how do they exist? Of which oneness they appear as duality?Answers to these questions compel us to posit undifferentiated Oneness-the all pervading Consciousness- as the background-unifying substratum.Consciousness appears to get divided into two: a subject and an object.Subsequently all the permutations and combinations in the realm of wavesand particles, energy and mass, appear to us as this multifariousuniverse. As a corollary, we can merge everything into two, energy-waves andparticle-matter. To one end of this duality is human consciousness andto the other end is the energy-mass complex. Now, if one wants totranscend the duality, the person will have to transcend theself-consciousness along with energy-mass complex. The non-dual existence engulfs -devours- the whole universe on one handand the individual consciousness on the other!c s s-- ====================For e-Zine on Vedanta and Science: Do Visit:http://www.geocities.com/neovedanta=========Sri Ramakrishnaye NamahVivekananda Centre Londonhttp://www.btinternet.com/~vivekananda/
