Guest guest
This in reply to message 1 of Digest #507: Ah. Here is just the difference between Zen and Vedanta. While there may be some few individuals in the world of aspiration to Truth who are ready and capable of doing without help from books or guides, the vast majority of us are not so prepared, and may require the rungs of the ladder you seem to be so anxious to do without. With all due respect to the Zen tradition and teachings (and I have a lot of it) it cannot be universally applied. Vedanta offers the " thinker " a step-by-step liberation from his thinking via logic -which- takes- beyond -logid, which has been tested by the centuries. Sri Ramakrishna says there are many ways to get up on a roof: by a rope, a ladder etc. One can even be thrown up on the roof (as by a koan or a sudden satori) but one may also get badly hurt in that way.
