What Sri Ramakrishna says is true at the level of an understanding that the devotee has. However, the vision of God that appears is simply put out there by the self of the devotee. The self presents the vision that the devotee is intensely longing for. Only the devotee is not aware of it.

It is amazing how little we believe in the capability we truly have. We can create Gods but we don't know that. When we are aware of that capability, then we would also become aware that we are the Gods.

But the game of this universe is intensely challenging even for the Gods.

[ramakrishna] Question & Answers

Question (asked by M) : Under what conditions does one see God? ( I think M stands for Mahendra Nath) Sri Ramakrishna : `Cry to the Lord with an intensely yearning heart andyou will certainly see Him. People shed a whole jug of tears for wife andchildren. They swim in tears for money. But who weeps for God ? Cry to himwith real cry' Cry to your mother Syama with a real cry, O mind ! And how can She hold Herself from you ? How can Syama stay away ? How can your Mother Kali hold Herself away ? O mind, if you are in earnest, bring Her an offering of bel-leaves and hibiscus flowers, Lay at her feet your offering And with it mingle the fragrant sandal-paste of Love`Longing is like the rosy dawn. After the dawn, out comes the sun. Longingis followed by the vision of God.`God reveals Himself to a devotee who feels drawn to Him by the combinedforce of these three attractions: the attraction of wordly possesions forthe wordly man, the child's attraction for its mother, and the husband'sattraction for the chaste wife. If one feels drawn to Him by the combinedforce of these three attractions, then through it one can attain Him. `The point is, to love God even as the mother loves her child, thechaste wife her husband, and the wordly man his wealth. Add together thesethree forces of love, these three powers of attraction, and give it all toGod. Then you will certainly see Him.`It us necessary to pray Him with a longing heart. The kitten know onlyhow to call his mother, crying,"Mew mew!" It remains satisfied wheneverits mother puts it. And the mother cat puts the kitten sometimes in thekitchen and sometimes in the floor, and sometimes on the bed. When itsuffers it cries only, "Mew, mew!" Thats all it knows. But as soon asmother hears to this cry, wherever she may be, she comes to the kitten.'sarvam vasudevamayam jagathPRASHANTH.GSri Ramakrishnaye NamahVivekananda Centre Londonhttp://www.btinternet.com/~vivekananda/
