Song of the Ever-free

(Avadhuta Gita)

Chapter 5 Verse 8

Brahman is neither void nor nonvoid.

It is neither pure nor impure.

It is neither all nor none.

Being the Selfsame Brahman,

O mind, why do you weep?

Commentary:

The 'Self' is equated to 'Brahman'.

Brahman defies all classification.

The 'intellect' tries to label it either as void or nonvoid,

pure or that which is not impure, It being 'all' or 'none'.

The knower of the 'Self' knows that none of these

classifications come anywhere near

describing 'Brahman' (Self).

Hence the final statement:-

'O mind, why do you weep?

look within and see your true majesty.
