Guest guest
Dear Jayanti Murughan, Shanti Ashrama, property donated to Swami Vivekananda, was started going by Swami Turiyananda in the fall of 1900, one century ago. It was a plot of 160 acres in Northern California. After a few seasons the Swami felt he had to return to India. The next Swami, Trigunatitananda, kept the place up for a few years, but after his death it fell into disuse. It is far out of the way of public transportation. The last caretaker left it in the 50s after a forest fire destroyed most of the buildings. It is one of the properties of the Vedanta Society of San Francisco, and can no longer be visited by tourists. The devotees of San Francisco make an Annual Pilgrimage there. With respects, ------ Swami Yogeshananda Vedanta Center of Atlanta 2331 Brockett Road Tucker, GA 30084 Ph: 770-938-6673 yogeshananda http://www.vedanta-atlanta.org/ -----
Guest guest
Response to Swami Yogeshananda: I had always appreciated Swamiji's mentioning arising first: somehow " Get up! " is a demand one must pay attention to. When one is up and at the ready, then one can understand the command to " Awake! " I have always wondered if he realized this psychological implication. Of course it may be individual to me. Edith
Guest guest
Act, act, and act For you have no choice But to act Forced to breathe, eat, and sleep Your heart continually beating Forced to think, fancy, and weep Even while dreaming Action, action, and more actions There seems no other choice It tells on your health Envelops you in chronic stress Splitting your personality into two How very depressing mess Action, action, and more actions Making you aware of limitations But Action, action, and more actions Also open up the gate of Freedom A step in different direction - Meditation leading to Liberation! c s shah
