Guest guest
Last night Hindus celebrated Janamastami - 'Birth of Sri Krishna' I was invited to give a talk on Hinduism and Sri Krishna at the Bristol Hindu temple. Let me share my experience with you. Bristol is a city about 110 miles west of London. The temple is an old church building 'reincarnated' into a temple. I have visited a great many Sanatan temples in the UK. They all house the full range of Hindu Gods, Goddesses. On entry into the building I turned to look at the main stained window. I was quite amazed at what I saw. Two huge oil paintings (each about 12 feet tall) showing Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda on either side of the stained window!! The 'old man' had somehow managed to sneak in here! I have never seen his portrait or picture at any of the Hindu temples in the UK and now suddenly he springs up in all his glory -12 feet tall....... : ) jay
Guest guest
Dear Jay, In fact I was also so delighted to know that the Chicago Hindu Temple also installed a statue of Swami Vivekananda. Guest guest
(following recd from the Mangalore RK centre). - Ramakrishna Math, Mangalore, India <rkashram Vivekananda Centre <vivekananda 25 August 2000 05:00 Re: Visit to a Hindu Temple in Bristol > Dear Jay, > Namasthe. > We are happy to receive your email and to know about Sri Krishna > Janmastami celebrated in U.K. Indeed it is beyond our understanding to know > the workings of Sri Ramakrishna. (The vast majority of Indian population in the UK have never heard his name.) Yet somehow this oil painting is hanging there in all its glory. That is why I said the 'old man' has somehow sneaked in. Obviously I was chaffed to see him there! jay
