[ramakrishna] Q & A

> Question (Posed by himself) : `Why does a lover of God retain the " ego

> of Devotion " ?'

>

> Sri Ramakrishna: " There is a reason. The ego cannot get rid of; so let

> the rascal remain as a servant of God, the devotee of God.

>

> `You may reason thousand times, but you cannot get rid of the ego. The

> ego is like a pitcher, and Brahman like the ocean-an infinite expanse of

> water on all sides. The pitcher is set in this ocean. The water is both

> inside and outside; the water is everywhere; yet the pitcher remains.

> Now, this pitcher is the " ego of the devotee " . As long as the ego

> remains, " you " and " I " remain, and there also remains the feeling, " O

> God, Thou art the Lord and I am Thy devotee; Thou art the Master and I

> am Thy servant. " You may reason a million times, but you cannot get rid

> of it. But it is different if there is no pitcher.'

> This is from Brig M.N. Seshadri ( retd) from Chennai. I am indeed

amazed at the speed with which you have responded to my request to be

included in the mailing list. Thanks I am yet a novice in the use of this

Machine . So i do not really know what you mean by @Backup. I woud be very

much interested to know what is meant by 300 MyPoints. Regards Sesh

Namaste Prashanthji

Yes, the duality implies that the seeker has still not attained the

knowledge of Brahman. Therefore, at that state there is still separation,

meaning an individual self (Jivatma) and Supreme Self (paramatama). Sri

Ramakrishna's advice is for the seeker (Jiva) not the liberated in life

Jivamukta. Hope this clears you doubt.

>

> SR: `As saying goes : " In my mother's womb I was in a state of yoga,

> coming into the world, I have eaten its clay. The midwife has cut one

> shackle, the naval cord. but how shall I cut the shackle of maya? "

>

> " Maya is nothing but " woman " and " gold " . A man attains yoga when he has

> freed his mind from these two. The self- the supreme Self- is the

> in to itself. But the magnet cannot attract needle if the needle is

> covered with clay. it can draw the needle only when the clay is removed.

> The clay of " woman " and " gold " must be removed.

>

> Mukherji : " How can one remove it? "

> SR : `Weep for God with a longing heart. Tears shed for Him will wash

> away the clay. When you have freed yourself from the impurity, you will

> be attracted by the magnet. Only then you will attain yoga.'
