Welcome back Anurag, As far as I know, there is this story of a yaksha called " Pushpadanta " who wrote the famous hymn " Siva Mahimna Stotram " . It is often quoted for the beauty of the poetry and the sincerity of the author. In the hymn Pushpadant says " vikArOpi slAghyO bhuvana bhaya bhanga vyasanaH " . People think Lord Shiva has a scar on his neck, which looks ugly(!) as an answer to their doubt Pushpadanta is reminding them about the episode of " Sagaramadhana " due to which Lord Shiva got the scar on his neck, the scar is there because he is holding the Kalakuta Poison there! If it were released then the whole world would have been perished. But the compassionate one did not want it to happen. It is because he is addicted. Lord Shiva got a vyasana (addiction) called " remove the fear from the world " . He doesn't want the world to be afraid of... And that things makes his neck look even more beautiful ---- says Pushpadanta. Personally, I feel angry thinking of all those Gods (including Vishnu), they have cheated my Shiva :-) Lord Vishnu took a beautiful lady (lakshmi)... Indra took a great elephant (Iravata), a great horse (uccaiSrava), and all other Gods have taken all beautiful things, but *what* did they gave to my Lord Shiva? They cheated my compassionate Lord! All those Gods gave " Poison " to Lord Shiva, because they know that he is the only one who could take it! But at least, they could have given something other than Poison! What do you think! :-) By the way, the story which the article narrates does not correspond to the story in the epic. I am curious in finding out the source. Yours, Madhava
