Guest guest
Quantum Mechanics is the cutting edge of modern science. A famous scientist commented on Quantum Mechanics 'Stupendously successful and excruciatingly puzzling' A good illustration of what is involved is given by this lovely story. A monk has a habit of walking past a guard every morning. The guard notices the same routine followed by the monk everyday. He becomes curious and asks the monk, " Where are you going? " . The monk replies, " I do not know " . This makes the guard extremely annoyed so he says, " You walk past me everyday and yet now you are telling me that you do not know where you are going? I do not believe you - you better tell me where you are going else I will punish you. " The monk keeps quiet. This annoys the guard even more so he takes the monk to the jail and locks him up. Just as the guard was leaving; the monk said, " See I told you rightly, I did not know where I was going - I really did not know that I was going up end up here " . (As long as the guard did not interfere; the monk was sure where he was going but the moment he encountered the guard he became absolutely uncertain of his future). This is one of the paradoxes of Quantum Mechanics. The world keeps ticking away in a certain manner; - the moment 'we' dig deep to find out what is going on - we become the obstacle. : ) jay Vivekananda Centre London
