Shree Kathirasan

'brahman charati iti brahmanaH' - one who strives to realize brahman is

braahmin - for that one should have predominant satvic vaasanaa-s.

Vajrasuuchi upanishhat discusses these varNa ashrama which is a universally

applicable.

Unfortunately Caste system, is of course practiced in India by birth not by

qualifications or guNa and karma.

Gayatri is taught during upanayana ceremony or thread ceremony for all

dwija-s, that is braahmana, kshatriya and vaisya castes - not just brahmins

alone.

Unfortunately now a days even brahmins are not getting the upanayanam when

they are eight. They perform just before marriage just as a formality. Most

of them are not qualified to be called brahmins. Others who are not brahmins

are sometime more qualified by virtue of their guNa and karma.

Hari Om!
