Guest guest
Hi friends i attended the conference titled " Bridging Science and Humanity " held in IISc, bangalore on 12-13. Those were the two days well spent. I missed out some half the talks. But it was great. It was surely a first firm step towards a future which stands in glory. I missed the opening discussion in which the eminent speakers like CNR Rao and Sri Sri Ravishankar were present. But attended all the rest that day. And i feel good that i took the decision of taking the risk and listening to all the discussions. There was one Dr. Gaur who very scientifically presented the material of Social Ethics and Scientific Ethics. The things were analysed like a scientific mind and was wondring that talk could be easily fitted in to euations. He followed how the Social Ethics evolve and same with Scientific Ethics and then linked the two. I like the one thought given By Confucius " Symmetry of Ideas " . If there is something that you want to do then apply that to urself if there is harmony in both cases then there will be a greater possibility of the decision being right. The talk was given by Dr. Gaur a prof. GeoPhysics. There was one Dr. S.K. Ramachandra. Man was full of enthusiasm and had the gift of making things and thoughts go in to you. He madeit sure that people understood what was being discussed. Filled the sessio with his humour. A special sppech was from Mr Hegde. Person said he is a consultant. He was a person with a very confident voice. Every sentence contained the humour and the content. Made the day lively. Discussed that science is good but when it gets in to technology things get ruined. Money and fame come in and ethics and knowledge leave. Talked about how secure r the genetically engineered vegetables for the invidual and nature. He said that nature developed few selective variety of potatoes which r edible from a large gene pool. But if we now introduce a sudden change in it. Then who knows what will happen. May be the future modifications in gene pool can cause the edible variety of edible potatoes to disappear. He talked abt that a great deal of biasedness and politics goes in to awarding the noble prizes. On the second day i was able to attend only the last talk. The speakers were DR. Abdul Kalam Azad, Chairman of Times of India ( Smt Indu Jain), and the revered Sri Sri Ravishankarji. All were at their best. The talk started with the gracious lady. It was just unbelieving to see the yougness and enthusiasm the lady had. She said a prayer and involved people in it. Said that where there is no difference so where is the need for bridge. I the end seh asked all of us o close the eyes and visualise as if the energy is going up to the head and then coming down to the level of Nabhi Chakra(navel). She asked what did u see. Everyone said nothing. She said yes thats the thing. U experienced the infinity through nothing. Next Dr. Abdul kalam. His was the talk what should India be by 2020. And gave the directins in which they were looking to see that it becomes a reality. When asked abt missiles defended himself by saying that i can't preach peace when i have missiles ready in the neighbourhood and world. Strength respects strength. Peace can only be realised by the strong one. Gave a hint in to ruralisation rather then urbanisation. Told that the very begining of space program started in kerela when the land was given by the pople when the father of the church asked his poeple that a great scientist wants this church and place to explore the truth by reason. People resonated by Ameen. He recalled the incident that when National Flag was being unfurled by the Pandit Jawarhlal Nehru, Father of Nation was there with people looking after them. This is leadership. Mahatma Gandhi gave the importance to work rather then unfurling the flag. And he said that when the first space satellite went down in Bay of Bengal his boss said u be there with and i will take care of press. His boss promised in press it was our first step may be i need to coach my scientists in a better mannaer and i sure you i will put the satellite in to orbit in 1 year. And his boss just did that within a year the satellite was up there. And this time his boss said come here now u ppl go and handle the press. Dr. Kalam said this is leadership. Leader takes the pain and gives the happines to others. He said that these 3 divine incidents has never gone out of his mind. The came Sri sri Ravishankarji. Smiles, understanding, love and logics were all there. Its always great to listen to him. will write about him later. The most noblest gesture which appealed to me great deal was the announcement made by the Chariman of Times of India (Smt. Indu Jain). She donated 1 Lakh rupees so as to set up a Faculty of Spirituality in IISc. The seed is sowed. Though its still far from something which will happen in real. It will have to through many tussles. If you go to the main page of IISc and follow a link to Scouncil i gues u will get a faie experience of what happened there in conference. I haven't cheacked out the contents there. But the organisers said that they will putting up the speeches by all speakers and questions and answers on the net. luv, Anurag
