The letter and story by Jairam Seshadri was a wonderful thing to read. I

love so much the way his gratitude goes out to all the big and little

streams that went into making that book (Sri Ramakrishna and His Disciples,

by Christopher Isherwood) available to him--the Mysterious workings of

Mother!

 

This story came to mind again with equal force today as I read an email

message from Swami Bodhasarananda, vice president of the Advaita Ashrama,

stationed at the Calcutta branch. During our pilgrimage last September we

visited with him and he showed us the building that houses all those books

that have lifted up millions, that publishes (along with the Madras Math)

translations of the scriptures that are of the highest quality. How

complete and inspiring would Christopher Isherwood's book have been if

Advaita Ashrama had not published the Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda

and the reminicences and biographies of the other direct disciples?

 

I am bringing this up because the Calcutta branch is far too overcrowded.

Literally, one can hardly move through the warehouse. A fortuitous piece of

land exists directly behind them that they have been attempting to purchase

for at least a year. They have raised 70% of what is needed and now

$132,000 is left. The purchase agreement is supposed to be concluded THIS

month. Perhaps it can be extended. They have already alerted the devotees

and other patrons once or twice this year and do not feel they can do so

again and are waiting to see how Sri Ramakrishna's Lila unfolds on this

issue.

 

Advaita Ashrama makes accessible to the entire world teachings that

REMOVE SUFFERING FOR ALL TIME-- by awakening us from ignorance of our true

nature. To support Advaita Ashrama in this work is to participate in the

awakening of millions of beings. A very reverred Swami with Advaita Ashrama

once said to us some years back that helping others to realize the Truth

aids us in our own realization.

 

Let's put the word out again for Advaita Ashrama...perhaps we all can be

part of the Master's Lila in this issue. We are pledging $1000.
