yes there is more and at the risk of going on ad nauseam

i nevertheless intend to do just that...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There is something else i learned from the earthquake...just goes to show

that we were not merely dwelling on the Gujarati diaspora without cause...

No prizes for pointing out who said

" In Life Always Assume The Position of a Giver. "

But it was Mother Teresa who said " Give until it hurts "

Both exhortations always touch me when traumatic incidents occur in other

people's lives, and it certainly did when the earthquake occurred.

For me personally(and all of this is very personal)giving is only giving

when it hurts...a little, at least. If there is no sacrifice in giving and

there is no hurt felt, then what has one given? Only when we feel the pain

of the sacrifice of giving something, whether it is time, or comfort, or

money, are we stretching ourselves and extending our smaller self to touch

that Higher Self within us all, the Universal Self that knows no boundaries

between bodies.

Having said all this...i am yet to decide whether what i gave for the

Gujarat earthquake has really hurt me...!

Lal Bahadur Shastri, the former very great Prime Minister of India in the

early 60's was asked to give a speech on population control. As India has

always had a population problem, he reluctantly agreed to do so.

When he came up to the mike to speak, he said,

" Since I am a father of six children, i am least qualified to speak on this

crucial topic. " and promptly went and sat himself down.

Reminds us of Ramakrishna's advice to the child not to eat jaggery, only

after he had stooped eating it himself...
