Guest guest
One question that I have been trying to find a suitable solution is this... We talk of spirituality and worldliness. Both these seem to be opposites in perfect sense. Then isn't it foolish to think of living spiritually while not renouncing the world ? To me it seems like keeping your one foot on one boat and the other on other boat... guaranteed to fall in nowhere ?! Its like playing the game of worldliness with the rules of spirituality ?! Its like you know that smoking is injurious to health but at the same time you don't want to part with the joy it gives ?! Strange situation ! Any clue ? _______ Get your free @ address at
Guest guest
Hello, > One question that I have been trying to find a suitable solution is this... > We talk of spirituality and worldliness. > Strange situation ! Any clue ? There is one nice book published by Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai (www.sriramakrishnamath.org) titled " Monasticism - Ideals and Traditions " . In the book, there is one article by Revered Swami Tapasyanandaji Maharaj titled " Monasticism - Inner and Outer " . I urge you get the book (you can order it online at the website) and read the article. Maharaj points out that every spiritual seeker is a monastic; some seekers take up the external paraphernalia of a monastic also. So it is true that spirituality and worldliness cannot go together; but spirituality and the life of a householder can go together. When I was in college, I wanted to take up to monastic life, and obviously there was tremendous opposition from home. This problem was eating me. A monk scolded me, " The aim of life is to realize God; not to be a monsatic or a householder. You strive for God. Let God decide which way is best for you and take you along that way. Do not spend too much time and energy on this problem. Spend the time and energy which you waste on this on sadhana. You will be much benefitted. " From then on, my mind became clear of this issue.
