Guest guest
The following news report appeared in the 'Times of India' dated 7-4-2001: Colombo: Sri Lanka's supreme court has rapped a Buddhist monk on the knuckles for seeking state employment instead of propagating the message of Buddha. The court rejected a petition by university graduate monk, Rupaha Premananda, who argued that his fundamental rights had been violated because the government failed to provide him with a job. " If a monk wants employment he can give up the robes and take up a lay job, " Chief Justice said. " There cannot be a question of unemployment for monks.
