Dear Rich

I have been an ardent devotee of Ramana and also one other

Advaiti Called Swami Rama Tirtha (there is also another

personality called Swami Rama but I am not referring to him)...

You can see a link to a site devoted to Swami Ramatirtha from our

links page at http://www.vivekananda.btinternet.co.uk/home.htm

Swami Rama-tirtha was a Mathematics professor in Lahore

and came to the West in around 1905...

He did not start any movement but his teachings

and saying are very inspiring.

You may have difficulty in getting books about his life and

teachings but if you visit the site - they may be able to help you.

My favourite has been the Tattva Bodha by Shankaracharya. It is so simple

yet delivers the goods. After this introduction comes the great

Vivekachoodamani. Regards.

There are also other classic texts that Sri Ramana Maharshi used to refer

to, such as Yoga Vasistha (Teachings of Sri Vasistha to Sri Rama),

Ashtavakra Gita and Ellam Ondre or All is One (a short and nice Tamil

treatise). I would also recommend Sri Ramana Maharshi's Ulladu Narpadu

(Reality in Forty Verses).

Dear Jay: It happen that I just received the last number of the VEDANTA

magazine, edited by Swami Dayatmananda, from Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre,

Bourne End, and there I saw a wonderful article on Sri Rama Tirtha, by John

Philips. I hope this article can be useful to you. Best wishes, Hérberton

from Curitiba-Brazil.

There is one short but excellent book on Yoga Vashishtha by C G Joshi. It

is in Marathi and titled as YogaVasithache Hridagat. There also one by

wirtten by Dravid. Both are by far the best commentaries on YogaVashitha.

After reading those I felt that Youga vasistha is perhaps equally important

a text like Gita for all Hindus.

Regards

Yours sincerely
