Guest guest
I have been reading one of the talks by Swami Ashokananda entitled:- Why practice concentration? (from the book entitled " Ascent to spiritual illumination " ) At times his remarks are very pointed; at times these remarks come with a blend of subtle humour.... Let me share a passage with the list. ============================ He said the reply one gives as to why one should not practice concentration is: We are busy... The talk proceeds:- You say, " We have so many other things to do; life after all is short and we want to accomplish something " . It won't have any appeal to me. I do not see any validity in that kind of attitude. What else have you got to do in life? According to my understanding you do all other things because of a lack of concentration. That's part of the symptom of your disease! It is as though a delirious patient were to say, " Doctor, don't give me the medicine! How shall I howl if you cure me of it? What do you intend to do? There is nothing else to do. All these things which you think are your duties and after which you run - all these things are due to the fact that you haven't got a concentrated mind, your mind is scattered, and it is this scattered mind that puts before you all these ideas of things to be done and to be pursued......... =========== I found this particular talk absolutely splendid. It is full of humour and great insights. jay
