My reply to Linda would be as under:

1. " deluded by individuality, the self thinks, " I am the actor what does

this mean?

 

Knowledge means realisation that everything is pervaded by God and God only

is the doer and the rest are but insturments in His hands. Just as in a

drama one reads the script given and plays the role ordained upon him by the similarly in life we play a role ordained upon us by GOd. But an

individual does not realise this truth due to the curtain of Maya and thinks

that he is sole control of things and is the doer or actor.

 

2.What is the real nature of action and how can we discipline ourselves in

order to act rightly?

 

Action is just the physical manifestation of thought. Hence it is the

thinking that needs to be disciplined if one has to act rightly. Thinking

can be disciplined if minds are directed towards GOD. There is no

possibility of faltering if there is light (and not darkness). This light

is God. Shadripus (six enemies: lust, anger, greed, bloated ego,

infatuation, jealousy) prevent us from seeing the light hence by concurring

these six basic animal instincts can one see light and then can think

rightly and hence act rightly.

 

3. What is the connection between disciplined action, knowledge

and sacrifice?

Control of the six enemies is discipline, knowledge follows once we control

these. Sacrifice is sacrifice of the six emnemies. The Six enemies drag us

away from truth and not to get lured in to these is sacrifice.

 

4. What can we understand about ourselves in disciplined action?

 

Disciplined action makes us realise the truth or the fruitlessness of

pursuing the sense objects. This put one on a fast track towards

realisation of the Ultimate truth. That is a stage of bliss. What we can

experience through sense objects momentarily quickly evaporates but the

stage of bliss achieved through disciplined action is permanent.
