Guest guest
Truth and Truthfulness What is righteous is also truthful and, similarly, what is truthful is also ethical. Thus, we see a close interrelation between truth (satya), righteousness (dharma), and ethics (niti). All the three taken together give proper and desired lead to attain worldly prosperity and salvation. In the final analysis Truth is one that which never perishes or changes. Such eternal existence or Truth, Vedanta calls Brahman and by other various names: Atman, God, Existence, Consciousness, Self and etc. Except for God everything else has an end, i.e. it is transient, and hence cannot be called Final Truth. But even lower or relative or transient truth has its own virtue and value which when followed leads to its sublimation and transcendence, and thus to Final Truth. Hence, to be truthful is itself a spiritual discipline - sadhana - and time and again Sri Ramakrishna was not tired of emphasizing this point on the heart and minds of his disciples. Relative truth evolves with time and changes according to the given social structure and culture. Therefore, dharma and ethics appear to change as per one's conception of Truth. -- c s shah http://www.neovedanta.org ----
