I am not sure which verses from the Gita would be suitable

for use at a wedding ceremony.

I will ask our list members to respond?

Namaste,

The wedding ceremony is described proto-typically in:

Rig Veda X 85 22-47.

An excellent translation and discussion is on-line at URL:

hB.html

[Pl. cut and paste URL inaddress box when it exceeds 1 line!].

It seems a pity that Gita verses are not chanted at this ceremony! It

is the finest collection of verses synthesising the 'pravritti and

nivritti margas', from karma to naishkarmya-siddhi.

Sri Ramakrishna summed up the essence of the Gita in the repetition of

the very word, which ends up sounding like 'taagii' [sacrifice]. What

greater opportunity than this ashrama to practise this? In fact he

also said, 'grihasthas can fight life's battle as from a fortress'!

Everyone can have one's own selection/choice of verses and their

sequence, and the ones I would recommend are [not in this sequence]:

3:8-13 15 30

4:15 24 39

5:10

6:5 17 31 32

8:14

9:22 26 27

10:9 34 41

12:20

14:16

16:23 24

17:8 14-16 20 23-27

18:5 42 45 46 48 57 61-62 66 70 76

I shall be happy to discuss the sequence if there is any interest.

Sw. Vivekananda said that he needed only the verse [2:3] to rouse the

Hindus from their tamasic slumber!

[kshudraM hR^idayadaurbalyaM tyaktvottishhTha bhaarata .]

Regards,
