Dear M Kar,

 

Worshipping one form of God is called Nishtha. It is necessary in the

initial phase for most of the seekers after the Truth. It is as if the

aspirant is desirous of realizing the ONE in the form of that particular

God Form. It does not mean that the different forms of God are different

Gods.

 

Basically God is one Principle. It is Absolute Consciousness; and Its

nature is Absolute Truth, Knowledge, and Bliss -Sacchidananda

(Sat-Chit-Anand). On our road to realize this Absolute Truth we

encounter certain milestones in the form of Visions of Personal God,

which we worship as our Ishta (Chosen Deity). These visions of Personal

God in themselves are highly blissful states of consciousness. However,

for different sadhakas, depending upon their inclination, aptitude,

state of their birth-place, and religion they are born in etc., the

God head to be worshipped differs. A spiritual Teacher knows this best,

and hence as per the instructions of the Guru one undertakes spiritual

practice.

 

If one jumps from one form to another, the mind of the sadhaka cannot

concentrate on the Divine and the aspirant is left nowhere. Therefore,

in the initial stages, for the proper mental concentration, worship of

one God Form is necessary. The sadhaka worships his Personal God as the

representative of the Absolute Principle in an idol, a photo, or an

image; a symbol in short.
