By a brief research just now on the internet, I learn that Vedanta Society of Nothern California at San Francisco (http://www.sfvedanta.org/) was started in 1900 by Swami Vivekananda. This might be the Shanti Ashrama which we find mentioned in literature. Description Station located in the Upper San Antonio Valley, approximately 2 miles south of San Antonio Rd., in extreme eastern Santa Clara County. It was established by Swami Turiyananda, who was persuaded by Sw. Vivekananda to come to California. He was an exemplar of true austerity and meditation.
