Guest guest
Some of the questions this group is getting point to the widespread misconception about Hinduism and Hindu religious beliefs. The problem is the list members belong to diverse opinions and faiths. Moreover, Hinduism is vast and in fact superficially very confusing. It has many apparent defects as it is equated only with caste system, image worship, and rituals and ceremonies. Moreover, it is difficult to find links and make any sense of various old and upcoming Hindu sects and faiths. Therefore, it is not possible, I think, to reconcile varied doubts and curiosities of many list members by e-mail communication. It would be advantageous for many members if they see someone well versed in scriptures and Indian philosophical thought personally acquiring first hand knowledge from such enlightened person. Secondly, it is absolutely essential to have faith or loyalty (nishtha) to one sect only. By way of comparative study literature and books of other sects may be read later. First essential thing is to get some measure of understanding about one sect that appeals to the aspirant most. Thus, ISKCON and Ramakrishna Mission, Swadhyaya and SSY, Vaishnava and Shaiva, Shakta and Vedantins would never have the same analysis and opinions, although everyone would be talking of the same Gita and the Upanishads! Spirituality is a science; and religion is its technological fall out. It is necessary to grasp the basic science at least in some degree first. c s shah http://www.neovedanta.org ----
