I remember reading SV > disagreed with Darwin's theory of evolution. But > somehow now I am unable to find out where he said > that. Swami Vivekananda disagreed with the conclusions of Darwin - not the theory. (1) The idea of survival of the fittest - he said is incorrect. The cruelty we see in evolution is the outcome of 'unnecessary friction in the rush to evolve' -- rather than a necessary condition. Hence for mankind evolution does not mean crushing the weak but 'helping the weak'. (2) The theory of evolution sits better with Hindu philosophy rather than the Abrahemic teachings like theory of creation. > Basically I want to know what makes a person > Spiritual, is it just his past karmas or evolution, > culture, society play any role. The answer I suppose is that all living things are 'spiritual' but a process of manifesting this spirituality is required... This process is called evolution. As we overcome these limitations we find out that we are 'divine'. Swami Vivekananda's famous saying " Each soul is potentially divine. The goal is to manifest this Divinity within by controlling nature, external and internal.... " hope this helped jay
