Guest guest
Hi Every one, A while ago I had asked the question of " celebacy " in spirituality. After a quite an interesting and mind opening dialoguges with many members I have decided to go ahead with with my journey on the spiritual path and not worry about that requirement at present. Now I have another question which is I am afraid not as Sexy. That is the need for the GURU. Whatever I have read always says " get youself a Guru " or you can be in trouble or will be lost. Now I don't know about you guys but I have not found any one I could trust as a Guru here. Scriptures also says if you are ready, God will provide you with the Guru. I am tired of reading books. I want to get in the water and learn how to swim rather than keep reading about the best way to swim. Do I start on my own? But How????? Guest guest
Replying to Prashanth, in Digest # 892: Swamiji's discussions of evolution are scattered throughout his Complete Works. Perhaps someone has collected them into one place; if so, I don't know it. He looks at evolution from the Vedantic perspective on the Samkhya cosmology, and this is not what Western scientist have in mind when they speak of evolution (Darwinian and post-Darwinian). So it is difficult to come up with an exact comparison. Moreover, Western refinement of evolutionary theory has taken place since Vivekananda's time. To pinpoint an answer to your exact question would take some looking. You may get some kind of answer from the following excerpt, (Vol. 8, p.238.) " All modern religions start with the idea that man was once pure, he fell, and will become pure again. I do not see where they get this idea. The seat of knowledge is the soul; external circumstance simply stimulates the soul; knowledge is the power of the soul. Century after century it has been manufacturing bodies. The various forms of incarnation are merely successive chapters of the story of the life of the soul. We are constantly building our bodies. The whole universe is in a state of flux, of expansion and contraction, of change. Vedanta holds that the soul never changes in essence, but it is modified by Maya. " So......Maya includes of course, all one's karma, past, present and future, as well as all the influences of culture or society. To explain the development of a spiritual personality one would have to take all these into account, and then say that the main thing is that the person has/had risen above ignorance, to a great extent. Guest guest
Dear Anup Again let the approach be similar for finding a Guru. Start walking on the path and the means will come at the right time. Till such time believe that God is your Guru. Ask him for guidance. Having said that let me add that the important thing is not to look at exteriors like great oratory, personality or the ability to enthrall people with explanations and words, name or fame. Look for love that is the only criteria.....love for God and all creation. He will help you to find love. Wordly criteria are poor measures on the spiritual path. All the best.
