Guest guest
" Spiritual Practice for Beginners " You must be aware that you do not waste any time. You bring your mind under control by consciously directing it so that it cannot think for itself. Make a schedule for the whole day. If you want to rest for two hours, let that also be part of your routine. Make your mind go consciously and deliberately from one occupation to another occupation until the time comes for you to fall asleep. Do not have time on your hands to daydream. You must now dwell on things which are unnecessary. ....those things are deadly to spiritual growth. Commentary: Have never come across such unusual training:- " you direct your mind so that it cannot think for itself " ......... The prescription will certainly send one to sleep very fast : )
Guest guest
Namaste, Readers would be interested in the book: The Mind and Its Control, by Swami Budhananda; publ. Advaita Ashrama, [4th reprint 1982]. The Bhagavadgita's recipe is unexcelled: abhyaasa [practice] vairaagya [dispassion] japa [chanting holy name(s)] satsang [holy company] Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, & Swami Brahmananda, attested to the efficacy - " chant the name with faith 20,000 times daily for 2 years " . [Patanjali does in fact warn of sleep as one of the obstacles to be overcome!] Regards, sunder Ramakrishna, " Vivekananda Centre " <vivekananda@b...> wrote: > " Spiritual Practice for Beginners " > > You must be aware that you do not waste any time.
