Dear Jay

 

I am glad to receive your e-mail dated 21st September. I entirely with the

views expressed by you in that e-mail. Please send this circular to as many

people as possible. In the meantime let us pray so that right understanding

comes to the people who profess them selves to be religious leader.

 

It is but natural that we get aggrieved by such happenings but our getting

depressed is not a solution to the problems. We all will have to work hard

to see that such happenings are not repeated. The problem is not going to be

solved by killing a few terrorists. It is a deep rooted problem. Mr. Samuel

P. Huntington in his book “The clash of civilizations”, points out that most

of the wars being fought are not wars between countries but wars between two

religions-Islam & Christianity. The solution lies in spreading the message

of Shri Ramakrishna of Harmony of Religions. He practiced all religions in

turn and then declared - “As many faith so many paths”. Claud Alan Stark in

his book “The God of all” has described how the study of Shri Ramakrishna

can solve the problems of plurality of religions. That is why the great

world historian Dr. Arnold Toyanbee says “ The present chapter of the

history had a western beginning but if the world has to survive from self –

destruction, it must have an Indian end. Mahatma Gandhi’s and Emperor Ashoka

’s principle of non violence and Shri Ramakrishna’s testimony as to the

harmony of religions, these are the attitudes and values which will save

the whole world from self – destruction”.

 

At this juncture what is required for us as the followers of Shri

Ramakrishna is to read the books connected with life and teaching of Shri

Ramakrishna more and more and try to become an instrument in spreading the

message of Shri Ramakrishna among as many people as possible to combat

dogmatism, narrow mindedness and terrorism.
