I guess what initially confused me is that I felt that there must be more significance to ni than simply being the highest note, because it is also a note that needs to go somewhere (to the sa of the next octave, say) and can't just remain on its own. That is what the ear tells me. Therefore, I didn't understand how it could be equated with the highest state--I thought maybe it hadto represent the penultimate state. But now I feel that an analogy does not have to agree in every aspect--only the essence of it is important, and one does not need to analyze each detail of the metaphor to see how it matches the reality being alluded to.
