And I replied:

Dear VBP.,

Mind is matter, but subtle. It is composed of three gunas, the basic

constituents of Primal Power - Prakriti.

It is so subtle that its movements are not visible, and it does not die

because it is a apart of subtle matter. Body is gross matter, and when

dies merges into finer elements of Aaakaash, vayu, Agni, water, and

Prithivi. Mind merges into suksham-sharira that comprises of subtle

elements tanmatras - of vasanas, desires, and ego. Subsequently

depending upon the tendencies it searches out parenthood and place to

form a new body.

Soul is not restricted by time and place and space. It is infinite,

all-pervading and immortal. Our body and mind just reflect the nature of

this soul as per its constituents. Tamas with dullness, infatuation,

rajas with ambition, activity, passion, and sattva with calmness,

balance, steadfastness, and desire to go god ward.

Hence soul cannot die, nor can one talk of the time of its entry into

the body.

Like a mirror our body reflects the image of self, just as water

reflects the image of sun in it. And as the unclear water or unsteady

water cannot reflect the image properly so also the impure mind covered

with ignorance cannot reflect the true nature of self.

Religion or spirituality consists of spiritual practices so that our

mind becomes pure and free from the covering of ignorance so that it can

truly reflect the true nature of Self.
