Guest guest
This is in response to K C Burrows - I interpret the 'desire' passage from the Gospel in the same manner. Yes, desires must be fulfilled before one moves on or is free from them. A desire like sex, if suppresses will ultimately win over any renunciation or promise one makes. These desires are more powerful than all the promises we make for ourselves. The secret is 'discrimination'. Thakur emphatically states this over and over again. Do it but with awareness, for example smoking, do it but watch and watch and watch. There is that brief 'split second' that one gets - where he can see the desire as a desire and a non essential thing. That discrimination is important in order to give up or rather 'get over' desires. My take on it is that at some time, Thakur had a desire for food, therefore, he asked Mathur Babu for lot's and lot's of food. I am told that Thakur eat for 3 days ! From then on he didn't care too much for food. What happened ? I am sure he eat with awareness, with consciousness. In fact, this is probably the only way to get over desires, i.e. to do it but with consciousness and discrimination. Also, i am told that this planet is only for the imperfect. Perfect people like Thakur cannot and do not decent on this plane. In order for them to do so, the 'create' a desire or a flaw in themselves in order to take birth. I am told Thakur created a desire for food. Apparently, once Sarada Devi (his wife) asked him about his 'food habit'. He would constantly enquire what was for dinner, what was there for everyone to eat, he always had food and sweets lying around him. It was almost embarassing ! So Sarada asked him why the constant 'greed' for food ? Ramakrishna told here that the day he would loose interest in food, would be the time for him to leave this earth. He had created an imperfection for himself in order to stay on this plane. I am told that one day, when Thakur's throat cancer was advanced, Sarada Devi came in with a tray of food and juice and Thakur turned his back on the food. this was the first time Sarada Devi had seen him do that to food ! Sarada Devi remembered what Thakur had told here and dropped the tray on the floor ! Thakur passed away shortly thereafter. Desires, i think must be overcome but discrimination and awareness, perhaps there is no other way. Make a great connection at Personals. http://personals.
