Re Desire and Lust....

Reading the insights on Desire and rages of lust, i might have a different

angle in addition to the many helpful and insightful suggestions already

offered...

As far as Desires are concernced, i always find Swamiji's exhortation useful

on this front...at whatever stage of evolution we may be.

If anything Strengthens and you feel a rush of STRENGTH in your veins doing

something or desiring something ...then embrace it.

Of course this must be within those Pillars of Dharma and Moksha that one

List Member already mentioned.

So if lust does run through one's veins and it seems to detract us from our

day to day activities, then marriage is suggested. Marriage and not wanton

acts of sowing seeds...for that would not be within Dharma..

And if any act such as chasing material goals gives us a legitimate sense of

self worth and strength of mind without which we seem to not be able to

define ourselves with a sense of worth, then pursue those material goals

legitimately...

Renunication will follow in due course when we realise that those acts of

pursuit and the fruits of material success and pleasures of married life are

not lasting after all...

Again as Swamiji said...pictures taken of the Sun from different stages

towards it are still the pictures of the same Sun...

All are indeed on the path to Moksha whether they realise it or not...as

Swamiji said...

Pardon me for being candid here, but human beings are the only species who

are able to make love with a view to satisfying the OTHER individual.

Animals when they make love usually do so utterly selfishly to satisfy their

own needs foremost. When such " other needs " come foremost when love making

is involved, making love is transformed into being sacred.

Any act, that involves transcending the individual petty self is a step

towards Moksha, a small step to ONENESS...

So when the Master said turn Lust towards GOD, He meant transcend your petty

self and think of the Other even in that act. Not all souls are capable of

taking that huge leap and embracing all of humanity and loving ALL equally

in one fell swoop..

When Lust presents itself and it does not leave, marriage is a step by which

we begin to identify with ONE OTHER soul, bond with that other soul even in

love making. Through that bondage and consummation a family emerges and our

bonding is extended to perhaps two more children...What has happened here is

that the person feeling lust has managed to seek oneness with three other

members of the human race...He puts or should put his family's needs

foremost ...that family then identifies with a community, the community with

a nation, the nation with a continent...ad infinitum till we finally

identify with the whole human race. People like Swami Vivekananda had

managed to leap frog the intermediate stages and he looked on the whole

Human Race as his very own...

When Jesus was on the Cross He addressed His own mother Mary as " Woman " and

not as mother. For Him, Mother Mary was just as precious as any other

woman...and He saw no difference...

He had transcended the need to identify and bond with one soul, thereby

transcending Maya

Loving one soul more than any other is Maya. But it is through that very

Maya that we transcend Maya...

In the end GOD is ONENESS of all the Human Race, indeed of all life and of

all matter...for the SPIRIT pervades matter as well.

It used to be that the English called themselves English and the French

called themselves the French...but now they are calling themselves

Europeans! Same is true for North Americans...and it is politically

incorrect to refer to Indians as Indians and Chineses as Chinese but rather

as Asians....So whether we know it or not, whether we are pursuing material

desires or not we are hurtling towards that goal of ONENESS...

Any act that goes away from that Oneness and steps back is Adharma...
