The Hindu Experience or Emotions Associated With it.

Greetings,

I am doing a research paper on the six dimensions of Hinduism and I am stuck

on the emotional aspect of Hinduism. Being Western I'm not sure I can relate to

how one feels within this philosophy-Help!, please.

Also, may I quote you? Please include all the pertinent information.

Regards,

Geralyn Fitzgerald

Dear Geralyn

We will certainly try and assist. We are passing your interesting

message to our email list and are pretty sure you will get a good response.

I do not think our list members will mind if you quoted them in your

research paper. The list members are requested to respond directly with a

copy to the list (so that others may not duplicate similar views).

Namaste,

Bharata Muni, in the classic treatse on Aesthetics

classified the human emotions under 9 categories -

nava rasas (nine rasas or moods):

shR^i~Ngara (love),

vira (heroism),

biibhatsa (disgust),

raudra (anger),

haasya (mirth),

bhaya~Nkaara (terror),

karuNa (pity),

adbhuta (wonder),

shaanta(tranquility) and

vaatsalya (parental fondling).

Some have added atenth one under 'bhakti' [devotion].

Regards,

Sunder
