Guest guest
Greetings, A few weeks back we had a discussion on desire and most of us said desire is main hurdle for spiritual progress. I would like add some more thoughts of mine on this. Even Buddha has said, Desire is the main cause for misery. But what does Vedanta say for this. It is agreed that in many places in BG Krishna says we should control desire and even in upanishads also it is mentioned. But does Vedanta say Desire is main cause for misery. No, Vedanta goes a step forward and asks if desire is the cause for misery than what is the cause for desire? And the answer is Ignorance. It is the ignorance of our own true nature causes this desire. It is the ignorance towards that God causes us desire. As a matter of fact, there is nothing wrong to have desire, a desire with a proper Gyana is needed. Sri Ramakrishna had an intense desire to realise God. His desire was so intense that he went to the extent of killing himself just like a teenage boy try's to kill himself when he comes to know that his lover has betrayed him. But we know that the desire of Sri Ramakrishna is much different from that of teenage boy because one is accompanied with gyana and the other with ignorance. If we are in ignorance than we will lose Viveka or discrimation ability for right desire and wrong desire. Vivekananda had a great desire which is far more than most materialist desire one can have. But what was his desire, to liberate the whole humans from the bondage of samara. So this shows clearly that there is nothing wrong in having desire, but we need to have right desire. That can only happen when are not in ignorance. But in the case of ignorance there is no right or wrong. There is no place for ignorance in Vedanta. And vedanta declares Ingnorance is the cause for misery. sarvam vasudevamayam jagath Prashanth Find the one for you at Personals http://personals.
