Guest guest
- " J_ R " <j1958r Wednesday, December 12, 2001 04:54I often wonder how different the advise is. In a follow up to this, i was reminded of the two " contrary " statements made by Lord Jesus Christ and Lork Krishna. The Former stated: " Resist Not Evil " and " Show the Other Cheek " while the latter exhorted us to Fight to Death I have often thought about this and i have always found Swamiji's words to " Forgive when you have a legion of Angels at your bidding to lead you to victory. But till then FIGHT! Fight to Death! " Any thoughts from the LIST on these two Great Masters's words that seemingly contradict...? Or are they not contradictory but merely advice at different stages? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~response~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It is an interesting observation. I to the view that the incarnation is a " perfect teacher " but his teachings are always in context. The " perfect teacher " will give perfect advise but the advise is always based on the varying circumstances he confronts. We notice this in the life of Sri Ramakrishna. He gave different advise to two of his disciples... Jogin was asked to stand up and fight for his master.. while Niranjan was asked to show restraint.... We keep forgetting that the 'absolute' can only be related to, grasped, explained, using the relative, and hence when translated into practice will always become limited in a sense . All world teachers give advice in a format that can best fuse spirituality into the person or the community they are dealing with. Not that the eternal message is different but the way it is transmitted will depend on the circumstances. Swami Vivekananda said something like: The contradictions we see are due to the 'absolute' adepting itself to varying circumstances. Such clear explanation....... We see that this kind of 'reconciliation of different approaches' were not taught by earlier incarnations. It is now that they have become more relevant due to the varying circumstances we face (multi-faith societies). jay
Guest guest
Namaste, Reminds me of the Upanishad story of Prajapati's instructions to the Devas, Danavas, and Manavas, when they went to him to know how they could realise Truth. He made the sound of thunder - Da - Da- Da ! and asked them if they understood it. They said 'Yes!' Devas said : it means 'dama' - control [senses from indulgence]; Danavas said : " 'daya' - compassion [desist from cruelty] Manavas said : " 'dana' - charity [share your wealth] Regards, Sunder Ramakrishna, " Vivekananda Centre " <vivekananda@b...> wrote: > - > " J_ R " <j1958r@h...> > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~response~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > It is an interesting observation. > > I to the view that the incarnation is a > " perfect teacher " but his teachings are always in context. > The " perfect teacher " will give perfect advise but the advise > is always based on the varying circumstances he confronts. > We notice this in the life of Sri Ramakrishna.
