chanting the divine name 108 times!!]

Dear All,

 

I would like to know where the number 108 comes from.

I feel its more important how much time you spend in

praying or chanting in your daily life than if its 108

or one lakh times. I know 108 is a holy number and I

am interested in the origin of this.
