Dear Jay,

What talk did you extract Continual Festivals from? It would be interesting

for us if you'd let us know where we might find quotes from Sw. Ashokananda

that you use. Thanks. Edith

To Sunder -- and Jay,

Having just asked for Jay's sources, I still want to reply to Sunder's very

insightful remarks with my memory of a remark by Sw. Ashokananda -- but it's

from a talk which I BELIEVE was on Guru and Disciple, but I am not sure. In

any case, the purport of the remark was that it is our habit, when someone

is telling us something, to be thinking all the while why we DISagree with

the statement (because of an attempt at discrimination, I think) -- and what

we should TRY to do is to find what we AGREE with in the other person's

remarks. He said it would make all the difference in our attitude toward

and enjoyment of life. I find this very interesting and a very good

discipline.

Yours, Edith

Dear Edith

The extract of the last posting came from

Swami Ashokananda's

Ascent to spiritual illumination. (page 142)

Under talk entitled Four Pillars of Wisdom.

(Not taking anything away from this grand personality.)

All his speeches sound like Swami Vivekananda

speaking to us not a 100 years ago but today.....
