Guest guest Posted January 10, 2002 Report Share Posted January 10, 2002 Hullo, I read something which I thought was relevant to this topic: Through the fear of God vanish worldly fears. The fear of God which eliminates all other fear-how may it be called fear? No other resting place is except Thee; all that happens is Thy will. One might be afraid of it if anything other than God held any fear-to be shaken with such fears is sheer perturbation of mind. -----The Adi Granth (Sikhism) Gauri Warudi --- Vivekananda Centre <vivekananda wrote:

-
& quot;raj upen & quot; & lt;raj2497 & gt;
& quot;Vivekananda Centre & quot; & lt;vivekananda & gt;
Sunday, January 06, 2002 03:07
fear or love

& gt; Dear Friends
& gt; Could you comment on whether people pray to God out of
& gt; fear or out of love. The other day I had one of my
& gt; friends telling that if she didnot pray, she would be
& gt; punished and sent to hell. I feel that in some
& gt; religion, remembering and talking to God is more out
& gt; of fear than out of love or respect. Fear of being
& gt; punished weighs more than the love for God. Its seems
& gt; that its more of a duty rather than praying for
& gt; respect or to spend some time in solace of the company
& gt; of God, who provides affection and love to his
& gt; children. Whats your opinion
& gt; Regards
& gt; Raj
& gt;
~~~~~~~~~~~~response~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Raj
Swami Vivekananda has said something like:-
Religious journeys may begin with 'fear' but have to end with
'love' for God. Fear may be the starting point but love has to
take over at a later stage.
jay
Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
