Trip to Dakshineswar

I have just returned from a two week trip to Dakshineswar and other sites

associated with the life of Sri Ramakrishna. I won't even begin to express

what I experienced there but suffice it to say that it was one of the most

beautiful and significant periods of my life. I spent the majority of my time

at the Dakshineswar Temple, getting to know the Gardens well and feeling

thoroughly at home, and spending much time in Ramakrishna's room where one

can meditate in relative peace (and I emphasise 'relative'......the Temple

compound is an exceptionally busy place!). I also visited in or around

Kolkata the Cossipore Garden House, the Shyampukur house, Kamarpukur and

Jayrambati, Balaram Bose's house, the Sanskrit school which the young

Ramakrishna helped his brother to run, the Baranagore Math, Belur Math, the

Ramakrishna Vedanta Math, Advaita Ashrama publications department, the

Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, M.'s house and the Morton

Institution. There were other places of interest that I did not have either

the time or the inclination to take in, largely because I had already found

what I really wanted at Dakshineswar and did not want further distraction.

I took a large variety of digital photographs which I have now posted on my

website and which may be of interest to list members ( go to

http://members.aol.com/afperry/DC/index.html and ).

If any other devotees, especially Westerners who may not be used to India,

are considering making the same pilgrimage, I would be happy to pass on the

practical benefit of my experiences there and I would certainly recommend the

trip to any Ramakrishna devotee.

God bless,

Alan

Excellent pictures. These itself show the divine ambience which have

been well captured by your camera. Your personal gain must have been

manifold. Hope you write some of your personal feelings during the

visit to enlighten us. Regards.
