The manner of asking questions and the way the questiona are framed reveal a great deal about the questioner..... His sincerity - His love of the subject matter - His capacity or incapacity to understand spiritual matters all these sometimes get revealed in his mannerism. So take care! jay
Guest guest
One thing I like about this list is that people do not waste time arguing senselessly. Mere debate will not bring anyone to the supreme goal of life. If someone has a sincere and honest question, people here seem to respond generously but to the point, and it doesn't go on and on, nor are there flame wars. It seems to be understood that energy must be focused properly, not wasted in mental exercises or ambitions to prevail in argument. One time a Buddhist acquaintance who was somewhat vehement about the concept of " no-self " said, in response to my use of the word " God, " " What do you mean by 'God'? " But as he asked it in a hostile manner, as if the word could not possibly be meaningful--not in an open or curious way, honestly wishing to know what I meant--I simply excused myself from the conversation. However, to pose an honest question in terms of a proposition that invites rebuttal, by way of stimulating a response, is not necessarily a bad thing. _______ Get your free @ address at
Guest guest
Namaste, Adi Shankaracharya in his 5 verses of advice [upadesha or saadhana or sopaana pa~nchakam] has this to say: dustarkaat suviramyataam - indulge not in perverse arguments shrutimataH tarkaH anusandhyataam - follow the discriminative rationale of the vedas [upanishads] budhajanaiH vaadaH parityajyataam - avoid debating with the Self- realised Argument, logic, dialectic, nyaaya-shaastra are recognised modes of philosophy, but also can be abused! Truth/God/Reality are beyond logic, but not antagonistic to their proper use.
