Significance of the 108 beads on a Mala

Please give me some information on the significance of the 108 number of beads

that is found on a mala. During Jaap a mantra is repeated 108 times using the

mala. I need to know the significance of this.

This is an interesting question. I have not found a really satisfactory answer.

The answers I had dealt with ideas like 12 months X 9 planets = 108

and another which focuses on how one and eight are separated by zero...

None have really satisfied me personally.

Let us ask the list members if they can throw more light on the

significance of 108 beads...

Namaste,

Please refer to message # 6582 [thread] and the reference:

By the way, this number is not limited to Hindu practices.

Thank you for taking the time to find a meaningful explanation to my question. I

do appreciate it and on behalf of my 9year old son, from whom this question

originated, thank you and continue the great work of educating the Hindus who

are looking for answers.
