Guest guest
Namaste, For many years it has given me much pleasure to make a large variety of mala, rosaries and chaplets, and to teach people this beautiful skill of handcrafting these. The mala can be 27, 54 or 108 beads, plus the Meru which is larger than the others and which gives one the start and end of each " round " of a Mala. Perhaps the number 108 might represent some now-forgotten need, like memorising 108 Upanishads? The early Catholic rosary was based on the number of Psalms which illiterate monks had to memorise, so they used the beads to keep count of each Psalm they recited in those days. The Russian prayer beads have 100 beads, and so on. 432 = 108 x 4 ... 432 000 years ... ? Aum Sai Ram Raga
