Guest guest
Thank you Devinder, Kendra ...your clarifications do help... it is the attitude in which the 'violence' is meted out that matters...that is what i learn from your postings... But self-defense for one is 'attacking' for another. Saints like Pavhari Baba followed the thief who stole his vessels and gave him the vessels he left behind. For such individuals any form of self defense is harm... i spose it depends how far evolved we all are and absolute rules for one and all are arbitrary...??? regards and pranaams _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. Guest guest
Dear Brad I believe that in India mothers do tend to use some mild " violence " ( wrong word) on children. Then many of them tend to cry themselves. I do not personally agree with any form of physical punishment to teach children. However consider a mother who once in a while, under the burden of other pressures or sheerly because the child is likely to get into trouble because of a certain behavior, uses some kind of mild " violence " . I would not blame the mother. I know my own sister who once in a while would teach a physical lesson to my nephew and then would start weeping herself. Yashoda would get fed up and tie Sri Krishna when he was a child to a pillar as a punishment. All this is just an expression of concern of the mother. Do you agree ? Pranams Dev Brad Stephan <brad wrote: Dear Dev: I thought your answer to Jai Raam's question regarding Sri Ramakrishna's teaching on how to handle bullies was excellent. However, a concern was raised with your statement, " the slap of a mother is not violence . . . " Why should a mother EVER slap her own child? Also, isn't pain inflicted on another person (physical or emotional) always " violence " to the other person, regardless of what's in the perpetrator's heart? Last, is physical punishment for children as common in the Hindu nation of India, as it is in the Christian nation of America?
