Guest guest
The following interesting email which comments on the concept of 'sin' in Christianity and 'right or wrong karma' in Hinduism. needs careful thought and response...... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~message recd~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I would like to hear your comments about " good " or " bad " actions under the concept of Hinduism. I was raised in a catholic school, so I understand the Christian concept of " sin " . But what is a sin ( or a wrong thing ) in the Vedanta´s point of view? Saint Paul said " love and do what you want " . I understand that Vivekananda and Ramakrishna said a very similar thing. In different words, of course. Am I wrong? The question of suffering and the law of Karma are very hard to understand (and to accept) if you don´t know what wrong things you really did to receive such suffering... Best wishes Vilma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The stance of Hinduism is to " hate the sin, not the sinner " . The reward or punishment is for the deed. Hinduism treats the person as neither good nor bad. So there is no concept of " sin " in Hinduism. We do not characterize the person as good or bad. Also, the deed being finite in time and quantity, can deserve only a finite amount of reward or punishment. There is no eternal enjoyment in a paradise or eternal doom in a hell. Rewards and punishments are time bound and the person is back with all his/her freedom to do more good or bad. We, however, agree that a person has subconscious memories of past action and fruits, which form the tendency to act. This is however only a tendency, and that too developed because of past actions. So there is no " sin " or responsibility thrusted on a person from outside. Guest guest
Namaste, May one suggest that if one has become what our Creator created one to be, there will be no 'Right or Wrong action' and 'Sin', since these are products of the mind, not of the Self.
