Yoga of Action

Karma becomes Karma-Yoga when one tries to unite with or realize one's

higher consciousness.

All actions are covered with some defect, like fire with smoke. All acts

are inherently born of ignorance that we are body-mind complex, and not

SELF.

Karma-Yoga makes us fit to realize our true divine nature by way of

purification of mind, which in turn, simply means reduction in number of

desires. Karma are outward manifestations of desires, therefore,

purification of mind means reduction in unnecessary karmas -actions.

Even if the person can give up one desire, he would be free of at least

one compelling action.

Whatever actions are compulsory should be done as acts of worship of our

Ishta Devata - chosen ideal, that way the actions would not bind us, and

in course of time, when they are not necessary we would be able to give

them up with ease. Else, we are addicted to actions, and even if we do

not need to do those acts we cannot give them up. We label the acts as

'our duty'! But in fact we do not have any duty towards anyone; we have

only one duty, and that is to realize our higher consciousness.

As can be seen, this is very unpalatable for most of us, and hence not

easily acceptable. Till we accept " religion as realization " , it is

difficult to comprehend the meaning of Yoga, and therefore, difficult to

practice Yoga.
