i feel both hansa and hamsa are correct and can be pronounce in

either ways. I pronounce it as in ounce. This ambiguity arises

because 'sa' is a avargeeya vyanjana. In case whereever there is

an anuswara, the pronounciation of that follows the corresponsing

anunasika for vargeeya vyanjanas. Check it with anka,

anga,kinchana,kunjara,kantaka,andaman,antahpura,sundara,kampana,kambani

etc. when it comes to awargeeya vyanajanas, generally the

pronounciation can be both hamsa or hansa or as we pronounce

'hounsa'.

This is what i was taught in my high schools, correct me if i am

wrong

regards,

Vikas
